He is the past Chief of Cardiology and the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Northside Hospital and Tampa Bay Heart Institute. He is the past Chief of Staff at Northside Hospital. He is the Medical Director for the Tampa Bay Heart Institute. He is a member of the Board of Trustees at both Northside Hospital and Largo Medical Center.
A native of Colombia, Dr. Salazar performed his undergraduate work at the University of Pittsburgh, following which he pursued his medical training at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. He continued with postgraduate training as an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at St Vincent’s Medical Center in New York, where he served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. He continued with his sub-specialization in Cardiology serving as Chief Fellow in Cardiovascular Medicine.
Dr. Salazar is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. He is also Board Certified in Nuclear Cardiology. He is level III trained in Cardiac CT angiography. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is a Fellow of the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
He is a Founding Member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He is a member of the Society for Cardiac Magnetic Resonance, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. He is Director of the Nuclear Cardiology Department at Bay Area Heart Center. His special interests include: clinical cardiology, preventive cardiology, nuclear cardiology, diagnostic invasive cardiac catheterization, transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, Cardiac CT angiography and Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Salazar is fluent in Spanish. His outside interests include his family life, personal fitness participating in triathlons, racquetball, scuba diving, playing classical guitar, oenology, languages and travel.
