Octavio Cosme, MD

Dr. Cosme joined BAHC in January of 2004.  His undergraduate studies were completed at the Catholic University in Puerto Rico and his Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at St. Vincent's Medical Center of Richmond in New York City affiliated with the New York Medical College where he served as both Chief Medical Resident and Chief Cardiology Fellow.  He then spent the next five years in private practice in his native Puerto Rico where he was directly involved in several capacities with the America College of Cardiology.  In the year 2000, Dr. Cosme came to Florida to complete a full year Fellowship of Interventional Cardiology training at the University of Florida Shands Hospital and entered private practice in the Jacksonville, FL area.

During his training, Dr. Cosme was the recipient of several awards including Intern of the Year award, Cardiology Fellow of the Year award and the Richmond Medical society of Staten Island NYC first prize for his original research study in alternative techniques for heart function measurement with echocardiogram techniques.  Once in private practice he served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Puerto Rico as well as co-director of the local American College of Cardiology yearly convention for three years.

Dr. Cosme is involved in noninvasive and interventional Cardiology.  He performs cardiac catheterization as well as interventional techniques including coronary artery angioplasty and stent placement, rotational atherectomy and brachytherapy technique to treat coronary artery blockages with radiation.  He also performs peripheral angiography, peripheral angioplasty and peripheral stent placement.

Dr. Cosme is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians and a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
