Whether the cardiologist sees you in the office or in the hospital, he or she will review your medical history and perform a physical examination which may include checking your blood pressure, weight, heart, lungs, and blood vessels. Some problems may be diagnosed by your symptoms and the doctor’s findings when you are examined. You may need additional tests such as an ECG, x-ray, or blood test. Other problems will require more specialized testing. Your cardiologist may recommend lifestyle changes or medicine. Each patient’s case is unique.

The remaining original partner of Bay Area Heart Center, Dr. David Kohl has been in private practice since 1985. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was named a Morehead Scholar. Dr. Kohl continued at UNC for his medical studies, graduating in 1979. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Dr. Kohl served as chief medical resident at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in 1982-83. From 1983-85, he was a cardiology fellow at Brown University Affiliated Hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology..

Dr. Kohl is the medical director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
