Microphlebectomy (Ambulatory)
Microphlebectomy (also known as ambulatory phlebectomy) is the removal of painful, unpleasant varicose veins in the leg that are located close to the skin’s surface. Veins are flexible and collapse easily, and even some large veins can be removed through small, micro-incisions (nicks) in the skin. Microphlebectomy is often done to complement endovenous laser ablation and radiofrequency ablation, offering both symptomatic relief and a significant cosmetic improvement.
What to Expect:
- The Procedure: The area around the vein will be cleaned and sterilized, and a local anesthetic will be injected around the vein. Once the area is numb, a series of tiny nicks are made in the skin. A specialized hooked tool is inserted through the incision and used to gently pull and remove the varicose veins. After the removal, small sterile bandages are placed over the nicks. The procedure is performed in-office and requires no stitches.
- Duration & Recovery: The total procedure takes between 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Once completed, your leg will be wrapped in a comfortable compression bandage. Within 24 hours, you can resume normal, light daily activities. Compression stockings will be worn for 2 to 3 weeks, and strenuous exercise should be avoided for approximately 2 weeks.
