Nuclear Stress Test

This test involves the injection of a small amount of radioactive material into your vein to image the heart, it is not a “dye”. contrast or anything you can be allergic to or feel.

  • Take your normal medications on the day of the test (unless instructed otherwise). If you need to take your medications with food after the 4 hr fasting time, please take them with toast or crackers, something very light.
  • Please STOP ALL CAFFEINE intake 12 hours prior to your test. This includes, coffee and tea (regular and decaffeinated), chocolate/cocoa, sodas, colas, or any prescription and over the counter medications that contain caffeine.
  • No food 4 hours prior to the test, but please continue to drink water, ginger ale right up until your test time. We need you hydrated to start an IV.
  • No smoking, nicotine, alcohol, or recreational drugs 8 hours prior to the test.
  • No powders, perfumes or lotions, but you can shower and wear deodorant.
  • Wear comfortable clothes (we suggest loose fitting shirts and pants or shorts) closed toe and closed back shoes. Do not wear a dress or one piece outfit. Women please wear a bra.
  • Please bring a LIGHT snack to eat after the stress test. This helps to improve the quality of your images for the physician who reads them.
