Venous Ultrasound

Description of this test: This test is performed by moving a smooth instrument (Doppler ultrasound) over the leg area. By using sound waves, the doctor can check the movement of blood through your veins. If the valves in the veins are not working well then the reflux of blood is seen by the doppler ultrasound.

What to do to prepare for the test: Please make sure you are well hydrated (drink plenty of water) before this test. If you wear support or compression hose, please do not do so for 2 days prior to the test. It is important to be upright (walking or standing) for 15-30 minutes prior to your test if at all possible. Men: Please wear boxer shorts or briefs, but not boxer briefs as they interfere with the testing. No lotions, perfumes, or colognes on the day of your test.
